  • A Strong Voice in Washington, D.C.

Working closely with Congress, the Administration and Federal agencies, the Conference helps shape public policies affecting waterways. The Conference monitors and interprets actions and developments, and intercedes on its members' behalf. Its reasonable approach to legislative quandaries has won the Conference the respect of lawmakers. Whether testifying before Congress, commenting on proposed regulations or entering a Federal Court battle, the Conference strives to faithfully represent the views and concerns of waterway interests.

  • Coalition Building

The National Waterways Conference works to keep diverse water resources interests pulling together for a common purpose. To that end, the Conference has organized the National Waterways Alliance, an informal association of Washington-based representatives of some 800 organizations, companies, cooperatives, utilities, labor unions and others having a stake in waterways policy.

  • Up-to-date Information

Rational decision-making requires timely, comprehensive data. "Washington Watch," a confidential members-only bulletin, provides a reliable and accurate assessment of legislative and policy developments and the political shifts behind them. It is essential reading for those who want to stay abreast of the latest trends.

  • Research and Special Reports

Whenever specific waterways policy issues emerge in Washington, the Conference is prepared with fact sheets and background materials. When warranted, the Conference has commissioned and published impact statements, studies and technical papers to paint a more balanced picture of the issue in question. Since its formation, the National Waterways Conference has published several books and scores of reports and papers.

  • Meetings and Seminars

Recognized for its timely and provocative programs, the Conference's annual meeting features knowledgeable, articulate participants and keynoters. Speakers have included Cabinet officials, Governors, and Congressional and industry leaders. In addition to the half-dozen panel discussions, the meeting presents numerous opportunities for networking. Also, since 1987, the Conference has sponsored a highly, acclaimed seminar series.
